Completing ICM Dornier Do 17Z-2?

Day 397

Monday March 27, 2023

A lot of breaking news had happened in our crazy world since last Monday. I will spare you the details.

There were exceptions in my hobby world though.

Monday 20 March

Trumpeter HMCS aka Athabaskan, aka Trumpeter HMCS Huron, has been glued last Monday and will be delivered on Pizza Night next Thursday.

ICM Dornier Do 17Z-2 has been on my workbench waiting to be completed.

This is Monday’s shot which could serve as a motivational factor. A second coat of light blue is needed but it should came only on Wednesday.

Tuesday 21 March

I broke another of my New Year’s resolutions.

I won’t be buying another model kit in 2023, Pro Modeler Curtiss Helldiver SB2C being the last one bought in 2022.

I ordered Tamiya Avro Lancaster online on JacHobby website. I just couldn’t resist. The instructions are down here.

Wednesday 22 March

I skipped the airbrush session instead using a soft bristle paintbrush. I mixed diluted Tamiya light blue with Liquitex clear acrylic and tested it first on Ju 88 spare parts.

We’ll see how this has worked out tomorrow morning on the Do 17Z-2

Thursday 23 March

It did work out fine with a nice sheen.

Moving forward I started masking the Do 17…

Friday 24 March

Homemade pizza was great last night. I brought back a doggy bag.

Masking has made significant progress.

I have made some templates for the fuselage.

With 3% left in my upload limit, I have created My Forgotten Hobby VII. There goes another New Year’s resolutions. My Forgotten Hobby VII will become operational when I start building Tamiya Avro Lancaster.

Saturday 25 March

Taking pictures every day of the progress made is a motivational factor as well as writing about my forgotten hobby since December 6, 2013. I will keep writing about it with another 3 gigabyte upload allowance…

My Forgotten Hobby VII…

Tamiya Avro Lancaster Mk III

Since the weather was not suitable for airbrushing I have experimented…

Using a large paintbrush I painted the upper surfaces with a mixture of homemade thinner, Liquitex clear gloss acrylic and leftover acrylic paint from Airfix’s “Ready for Battle” model kit.

Sunday 26 March

Weather permitting I have airbrushed the upper surfaces.

There were a few mishaps.

If all goes to plan the Dornier should be completed on April 1st.

Fingers crossed 🤞
